The Methodist Church in Ireland has apologised ‘unreservedly for failures in pastoral support and care’ to the LGBT community.

‘All people bear the image of God, and we recommit ourselves to treating each person with the dignity they are due. We have fallen short of the example of Jesus,’ was the message at this year’s Conference.

The discussion formed part of Thursday’s business at the Assembly Buildings in Belfast. The human sexuality report was backed by 148 votes to 64.

Meanwhile, the President Designate of the Methodist Church in Ireland for 2025-26, is the Rev Alan Wardlow.
