Advent
by Tom Wilson
This edition of the Methodist Newsletter will be in your hands at the beginning of Advent, the season of the Christian year when we celebrate the coming of Jesus into our world as a vulnerable little baby.
As we get closer to Christmas Day itself, one question often asked is, ‘Are you ready for Christmas?’ What is really meant by that question is, ‘Have you bought all the presents and bought or ordered all the food?’ My usual response is, ‘My wife Louise is!’
Advent is not just a time for celebrating Christ coming among us but making sure we’re ready for ‘his coming again’. Do we give as much thought to his second coming as we do in celebrating his first? There should be no difference in our attitude to getting ready for Christmas and getting ready for Christ’s return.
