Sometime before Easter last year I was approached by David Rees of the Waterford Palestine Support Group and manager of the St Patrick’s Gateway Centre about St Patrick’s Methodist Church, Waterford, supporting the struggle of Palestinians for justice and peace in their land.
Together with this request came an offer of a Palestinian olive tree for planting on our grounds, and the idea of making our grounds an ApartheidFree Zone. The Board of the St Patrick’s Gateway Centre was informed about this request and offer, gave their consent, and left the final decision with the leadership of the church.
