We awoke early in order to see the Annapurna mountains in the dawn sun.

We had stayed the night in Tangting, a village in the foothills. Annapurna means ‘the giver of food and nourishment’ because of the region’s flowing rivers which support life all year long.

However, names can be deceptive. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world; with over 5 million of the population living in extreme poverty.
