Rev Dr Sahr Yambasu.
Expectations are strong hopes or beliefs that something will happen, or we will get something that we hope for. One example that readily comes to mind is that of Naomi in the Book of Ruth in the Old Testament. Naomi, like all of us, expected that she would have her husband and sons with her for most, if not all, of her life. And even grandchildren. Her expectations were based on her questionable understanding that God’s blessings come only through the fulfilment of her expectations. But when her expectations on both counts seemed not to have materialised, she was deeply disappointed and became bitter (Ruth 1: 20-21).
