Rev Dr Sahr Yambasu.
It is said that behind every successful man is a woman.
Most people would accept the truth of this statement. The same could be said about any family, society, and church. Regarding Christian ministry, Paul makes no secret of this as he describes Phoebe as ‘a servant of the church in Cenchreae’, Priscilla as ‘my fellow worker in Christ Jesus’, and Junia as ‘well known among the disciples’ (Romans 16).
Who could read the Bible and not be struck by the faithful tenacity and risk-taking capacity of women like Hagar, Hannah, Naomi, Ruth, Deborah, Esther, Mary the mother of Jesus, Mary of Magdala, and so on, in promoting the will of God?
Reading about these women there are more than strong hints that there were times when they doubted their ability to accomplish what, it would seem, was God’s call upon their lives. But, by the grace of God, they did and left us with examples worth emulating in our own journeys of life under God.
